Is an IUD right for you?

  • You want long-acting contraception you don't have to think about every day
  • You'd like your current IUD removed or replaced
  • You'd like to talk through your contraception options first

Cost

No out-of-pocket fee for the procedure

IUD insertion and removal are bulk-billed with a valid Medicare card. We insert both hormonal and copper IUDs.

The IUD itself is bought from a pharmacy with your prescription. Hormonal IUDs are PBS-subsidised; copper IUDs are not, so they usually cost more.

What to expect

1. Consultation

Your doctor discusses your health history and options, and whether an IUD suits you.

2. Procedure appointment

You collect your IUD from a pharmacy with your prescription and bring it along. Insertion, removal or replacement is done in our private treatment room.

A check-in afterwards to make sure everything is settled and you're comfortable.
